Will turning off "knock learn" disable the knock sensors?

Will turning off "knock learn" disable the knock sensors? Will turning off "knock learn" disable the knock sensors? Is there anything to be gained by turning this off? Is it possible to get knock that you can't hear? I have heard that this may disable the knock sensors ability to detect knock....Can someone please set me straight here?
