Default timing with racing fuel

My car, 11.8 c.r and 100 octane fuel, runs 30 degrees above 4000rpm and 31 above 5600. GM did the original maps for me, and I haven't had a chance to push it yet. Anyone safely run over 31 degrees of timing with this type setup?

Adding timing is like climbing a moutain. Once you reach the peak, you start going down. Find your sweet spot at the track. Monitor with autotap with every run and make sure there is no KR. Once your mph starts decreasing go back.

I'll take this as a no.

With 12.2:1 I used to run as much as 31.5 degrees of timing advance at 6800. At 6000 it would be about 30. This was a 422 CI engine. I was using VP Motorsport 103 with has a MOTOR octane of 99. R+M/2 was 103.

I have done a couple all-out race tunes. I don't go higher than 31 even with higher octane gas.

On the dyno (naturally the load conditions aren't the same as racing) going past 31 deg total advance does not produce measureable gains. And in my opinion, the chance of detonation outweighs the benefits.

I have heard of other racers pushing it a few degrees further, even up to 36, but I have yet to been sold on the idea.

Good Luck,
Kevin
