Default Factory reflash?

This may be a silly question, but how much will it cost me to get the dealer to reflash the PCM. The reason that I ask is that i am thinking about getting LS1 edit and I am afraid that with my limited computer knowledge I will screw things up. I really like the idea of this tool(LS1 edit) but the thought of messing things up has me worried. I am in the process of installing a 99 LS1 T56 with an ATI P1SC 4psi in a 93 Mazda RX7, so I would like to use the Edit for skip shift delete, VATS delete, VSS altering, Rear O2 delete, possibly EGR delete, as well as fan control, and custom tuning for A/F ratio. My concern is with ease of operation with the unit and of course reliability. My only dealings with computers have to do with the internet, so I am worried about messing things up. Any feedback with LS1 edit would be great. thanks much

cdk-sounds like a fun project going on there.I work at a dealership and can tell you that the dealer cannot help you with custom programming with any portion of this due to the fact that all
the programming dealers have come from GM through a satalite(sp) link and all we have access to is stock programming.I once called gmtech assist for special programming on Imp SS that installed 4.10 gears and they WOULD NOT help due to no factory
program for that setup. Now i think the same is going to be true for your project. Either have ED Wright type programming done or LS1 EDIT ,probably your best options.Hope this helps. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" /> (ps,if you totally screw things up the stock programming could be reset, charges are 1 hour labor,we get $78/hr,check local dealers for labor rates/hr)

The first thing you do when you get LS1edit is download your PCM's data file and SAVE a copy to a file name that you know you wont delete. You can then modify the data file that you have downloaded to your hearts content because you have a backup copy. It is as simple as that. I also use the date in my file names to avoid confusion of when I modified a particular item.

Thats great to know that I can retun to stock from the dealer. And a great idea to back up the stocc PCm file. I guess I will probably buy the edit and learn the hard way, unless you guys have any better, cost effective routes.

Does LS1 Edit allow VATs delete? I've never seen anyone mention that.
As far as programming for a different gear ratio, (VSS)should be no problem. You could probably do that with a used HPP3 unit, (and some fuzzy math, depending on final drive ratio/tire size). Overall you would probably be better off mastering LS1 Edit, though, because of what might be a lenghty tuning process via mail with one of the pcm tuners. Sounds like a good project, though! Is this gonna be a top speed demon or a "touch the gas" and smoke 'em project?

Thanks for all the input, keep it coming. In response to your question about high speed or drag bruiser, probably more of a 0 to 130 vehicle. I Have an 88 Turbo RX with a 98 LS1 t56 in it that is stock, and I drive it everyday. With 255 17's on it it goes 12.7@113 at the strip and will hang even up with 2002 Z06's and 911 AWD turbo's. It only does this because it weighs 2800 lbs. The new project (93 RX7) is being built to put out 415 to 425 at the wheels, the old one puts out 315. The only reason that I am asking all of these questions is because I am so happy with the performance and reliability of the old one that I want to make sure this one isnt a headache. Oh yea by the way it is a lot of fun to whip these other cars in a RICEMOBILE, and they are usually more apt to try and prove a point. I put a hurt on a 2003 supercharged Cobra the other day, and the guy wasnt too happy when he thought he got it from a rotary ricer. When I told him he had his *** handed to him from an LS1 he understood and asked to see the car. I think in the new car I will keep the power plant a secret, getting beat by a ricer surely pisses most off, in fact most of the people, especially the 2002 Z06, challenge me 2 or 3 times figuring they must have been in the wrong gear or maybe they didnt push the pedal hard enough. Anyway thanks for all the help and keep it coming.
