I have a 1998 Camaro and I was throwing a code for knock sensors awhile back so I decided to change them out. I bought AC-Delco knock sensors 213-298 on the box (GM part #10456222). I also bought a new wire to hook them up. The wire looks almost exactly like my stock wire that have two male ends that each plug into a sensor. Unfortunately the connections on the sensors are different. My stock sensors both have female-type connections while the ones I bought have male connections. From everything I have heard on here, the 10456222 part should be the replacement for the sensors. So should my wire be different? I can throw some pics of this up later if it helps at all, but it does not appear my new sensors are compatible with the wire I bought. Does anyone have any suggestions? Or does anyone know the part numbers that will work? (I don't have the part number for the wire I bought, but can check it when I get home).

The KS part number I have may have been replaced with the number you have, not sure (#10456603).

It sounds like you got the wrong wire.

 

The knock sensor is listed on the "LT1/LT4 and LS1/LS6 F-Body Part Numbers thread" from June 2005 (https://ls1tech.com/forums/general-maintenance-repairs/336981-lt1-lt4-ls1-ls6-f-body-part-numbers.html) as the 10456222 part, which I seem to have...

But I've seen the 10456603 number for the knock sensor before. They may or may not have been replaced with the 10456222 number that is engraved on the knock sensors I have. If the 10456603 part still does exist, I guess that may be an option??

As for the wire, I just called home and my roommate said (in other words take with a grain of salt) that my SDPC bill said the wire had been replaced with 12575869. But the new wire does look like the wire that exists now, which may have gotten crushed by the LS6 intake so I do want to replace it while I have everything ripped up.

Anybody know if the knock sensors or wire changed part numbers or changed the style of connector? Right now I'm stuck until I get the right parts , so any knowledge anyone has to share would be most helpful. Thanks....

 

It seems that if you get the correct wire, #15372170, you should be all set. The new wire you have seems to be the same as your stock wire which is for '98s, and that's why it won't work with your new knock sensors. If I got this straight.

 

Yeah that's what I'm thinking too, but I'm still far from getting this straight! Just wish I could find a picture of the wire to see if it has female-type connections that would fit my new sensors (which have a male connection)....

I'll take a closer look at my bill when I get home to see if I ordered the wire you spoke of and see if SDPC made a substitution for it.

This is what my parts CD shows. I just checked all 4 numbers on GMpartsdirect a couple of days ago and they all show to still be good numbers.

So I imagine the design 2 is supposed to be the knock sensors that were the "fix" to the 1998's problem of showing false knock all the time and it looks like I ordered the old knock sensor when I had the new type to begin with (or at least I assume design 1 preceded the design 2)...

well looks like I'll be returning some stuff to SDPC...

 

It is my understanding that the 2nd design were phased in sometime during the 98 MY. They are the only knock sensors listed for 99-02. Interesting thing though, my parts CD shows 15372170 to be the harness for 99-02. It does not appear to be a good number now.

 

I think the 2nd design '98 sensor and harness are exactly the same as the '99-'02 sensor and harness. They have different numbers because they are a fix for the '98s. Not 100% sure though.
