I have to double my HPP3 book but I'm pretty sure it has to deal with the type of gass your state sells. If your state uses the reformulated gas with MTBE you have to use the programming for the reformulated gas. If not you will run into huge detonation problems. In fact most people who run the base Hpp3 power tunning still run into pinging problems at about 5,000 Rpm and up. I have had first hand experience with this problem especial in the summer heat (keep in mind I have a 160 stat).
That means that in one of those two seetings one has more timming than the other or what,do you think that in Texas we have that reformulated gas, does anyone know what kind we have.
The one benefit to HPP3 is the ease of use. So long as you have a fresh battery you can upload the non RFG prgram and see if it pings. If it does just hook the HPP3 back up and change the program. It usually takes about 15 mins on my car even though the book says it usuallytakes about 30 mins. Maybe it's because I have an M6 and there isn't all the shifting info to up load.
looks like you use the reformulated gas in your area http://www.ethanol-gec.org/clean/cf02.htm

It burns easier/faster to help with cold starts. In MD most of the pumps in my area have signs that say "Nov thru May oxygenated gas is dispensed from these pumps..." The draw back to that is it make our cars more prone to pinging because the HPP3 works by leaning the car out and advancing the timing.
