Re: does a hypertech make a big difference on a ls1?
Last Saturday at the track I ran a 13.079@108 without the HPP3 tuning installed. My second run with the HPP3 installed was 14.47 at 105. I spun the wheels half way down the track. I didn't get another run in so I don't know what the result of the tuning was. I am going to the track on Sunday with the tuning installed, I will have the results next week. My car is basically stock except for the gears.

The only dyno I've ever seen on the HPP3 showed -2RWHP / +1 RWTQ. The JET was even worse. The stock setting was consistently more reliable. All the Hypertech can do is advance your timing slightly. Do the research on the Predator or LS1Edit, you'll be wayyy happier in the long run. Both let you adjust timing and fuel enrichment along with a bevy of other parameters. Send me an E-mail and I can get you a very competitive price on the Predator. It's very easy to use and I guarantee you'll see more posts with positive results than with the HPP3. Just do a search or peruse through the threads and you'll see what I'm talking about.
LS1's are set up heavily on the rich side from the factory. Advancing base timing by 1 or 2 degrees only can't possibly gain much in the way of power. You need to be able to adjust A/F and TOTAL spark advance on a dyno using a wideband 02 sensor. Two guys on here just posted last week that they each ran 1 MPH and 1 tenth better in the quarter switching from the HPP3 to the Predator. They did the switch at the track and made back to back runs. I made 10 RWHP on the dyno. LS1Edit results are just as good if not slightly better. You just have to know what you're doing inside the A/F mapping tables and you need a laptop. But do the research before you spend the money. If you decide to go with the Predator or you have any other questions, send me an E-mail.

Re: does a hypertech make a big difference on a ls1?
I have the non-RFG tuning in my car with a T1 cam. Before the cam, non-RFG tuning made it run too lean. I noticed a SOTP difference at part throttle but it would ping at WOT. I saw lots of knock with Autotap and it also confirmed I was running lean (O2s were in the .790mV range).
Now that the cam is in, I don't get any knock retard and my O2 levels are about perfect with the tuning. Do I notice any performance difference? Not really but it keeps the car from running rich.
I'm also using the Hypertech for fan settings and gear ratio change.
