Default How to desensitize knock sensors?

If I wanted to desensitize my knock sensors 10% to get rid of some false knock how would I go about doing that in Edit?

Excellent question, I was just thinking that this evening looking through the LS1 Edit program.

Well hopefully somebody will answer the question for us. I'm wondering if it could be harmful to anything to take it down 10%? Hmmm... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

I don't believe you can de-sensitize the knock sensors w/ LS1Edit. However, what you can do is to lower the number of degrees of retard. If it's really false knock, you should gain some power. If it's true knock (pinging), then you risk engine damage. My experience is that you can hear most pinging with the naked ear --- so if you're getting KR but not hearing any ping, it's probably false knock.

To de-sensitize the knock sensors, try getting your PCM re-flashed by your dealer. There is also a way to do it electronically, but I don't know how.

Go to Corvetteforum.com and do a search in the C5 section. There's a guy there that sells a device that is supposed to get rid of false KR.

Yes, you can desensitize the knock sensor with LS1Edit. I'm at work right now and can not think of proper tab or location of the table. But last year I desensitized my knock sensor by 25% by multiplying thru by 75% using LS1Edit. I am thinking that maybe I should set it back to stock.

Just look around under the various tabs and tables, you will find the right one.

I dont want to screw anything up so I'm thinking maybe I shouldn't touch it. Now if theres actaully a guy that has a device that gets rid of false knock then you cant really get any better than that. I'd for sure buy one of those.

Doc, I stand corrected.

Does multiplying the value by .75 affect the input signal from the sensor, or the amount of knock retard that is applied?

i don't think you can do it with ls1 edit, you can make it react more slowly to knock and you can make it recover quicker and you can limit the total timing that it can pull. but all that put together doesnt work as well as a couple of resistors.

if the false knock is continuas then it still reacts almost instantly and wont recover either, limiting the timing that it can pull will screw you if there is real knock.

check this out http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/6647/ta93/knock.htm

i did the resistor trick and it worked great, i went 22% because that is the resistor that they had. it got rid of the false knock and now if there is knock retard i usualy hear some pinging so it still works for real knock. one problem, it sets a code, those directions with the extra resistor in parellel are supose to keep that from happening. i think keep that code from seting with ls1 edit.

You can set the max KR vs. RPM to a lower number or multiply the Attack vs. RPM by .50,.75 or whatever your preference.

Edit can make the sensors 'do more work' by increasing how much kr you get for a given voltage. But it can't make them any more sensetive. You'd need a different sensor for that.

You don't need to look any farther than right here on LS1Tech.

Contact Tony “Nine Ball” (co-owner of this board)for a knock sensor desensitizing circuit. Was selling them for 50 bucks. Don't know if the price has changed.
