Default What is Torque Management

What is Torque Management, what does it do, is it restrictive or not, should it be editted and how.
I also have a M6 - Does it still apply?

some say M6's have it, but not as bad as us a4's

TM is where the car retards timing on the shifts so its not making the power threw the shift killing the tranny over time. Its just like a safety feature that helps the trans last longer..

you can get rid of it with edit

From Edit Mailing List:

Torque Management (TM) is a function of the PCM that reduces engine power
under certain conditions. TM is performed for the following reasons:

1. To prevent overstress of the powertrain components.
2. To reduce engine power during certain throttle actuator control (TAC)
system faults.
3. To limit the engine power when the brakes are applied more than
approximately 40%.
4. To prevent damage to the vehicle during certain abusive maneuvers.

The PCM monitors the following sensors and engine parameters to calculate
engine output torque.
a.. Air/Fuel ratio
b.. Mass Air Flow (MAF)
c.. Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP)
d.. Intake Air Temperature (IAT)
e.. Spark Advance
f.. Engine Speed
g.. Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT)
h.. A/C Clutch Status
The PCM monitors the torque converter status, the transmission gear ratio,
and the extended brake switch input in order to determine if torque
reduction is required. The PCM retards the spark as appropriate to reduce
engine torque output if torque reduction is required. The PCM also shuts off
the fuel to certain injectors to reduce the engine power in the case of an
abusive maneuver.
The following are instances when engine power reduction is likely to be
expected:
a.. During transmission upshifts and downshifts
b.. Heavy acceleration from a standing start
c.. The brakes are applied with moderate to heavy throttle (with the
traction system active).
d.. When the driver is performing harsh or abusive maneuvers, such as
shifting into gear at high throttle angles or shifting the transmission from
reverse to drive to create a rocking motion.
The driver is unlikely to notice the torque management actions in the first
two instances. The engine power output will be moderate at full throttle in
the other two cases.
The PCM calculates the amount of spark retard necessary to reduce the engine
power by the desired amount. The PCM disables the fuel injectors for
cylinders 1, 4, 6, and 7, in case of an abusive maneuver.

To get rid of what little TQ management there is on an M6 set the 'Max Torque' value under the ignition tab to 999

Default Re: What is Torque Management

just to add some more info
the torque ratio on a stock converter is 1.9
so if you have 350lbs of torque, its actually 665 between shifts and take off. but with the torque manangement set at 350 stock, thats all you get during those times.

yup, like these guys said... it takes power away between shifts to reduce wear. Once eliminated you notice a difference... every notice how at WOT on 1-2 it pulls pulls pulls shifts feels like it bogs and then pulls pulls pulls ? that's TM

I have a scanmaster and a a4. My timing drops to 0 between shifts, the it goes back up. It's a really nice feature <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" /> !!
