Default Can I do this?

I found a 98 Trans Am for sale cheap at a small local lot, but they cant get it to run because of the security system. Can I just swap out the pcm thats in it with my pcm thats programed for stand alone use to bypass the security system?

Sounds like a VATS issue, probably won't be to hard to fix it. Unless it's aftermarket, then it might have "starter kill" or something similar. If they'll unload it to you cheap, then I'd think about it.

if your PCM has VATS disabled, then should work fine (assuming your PCM is a 98 PCM) (assuming it's a VATS issue... which it likely is)

Thanks for your input, but I have one more question. Will the vats system keep the car from cranking over?

Yes and swapping the pcm will not work to fix it unless you have had your current pcm reflashed to disable it (vats). The bcm is what stores the correct vats resistance value, and it tells the pcm its ok to start when the right key is inserted.
