Hypertech and custom tuning questions??

Hypertech and custom tuning questions??
If I currently have a Hypertech Power Programmer on my car along with lots of other mods. I wanted to get my car fully tuned so that everything is up to specs with the mods. If I was to take it in to get it tuned, would I need to take off the tuning from the Hypertech. If so, will I need it anymore? Does it serve any purpose anymore since I have custom tuning? If I do take of the tuning from the Hypertech, will the custom tuning give me back what the Hypertech gave and then some? Meaning will it replace or improve the performance out of the Hypertech?

Re: Hypertech and custom tuning questions??
You should remove it beforehand.
How it performs with custom tuning is all up to how good the tuner is.
Some tuners make is that afterwards you can't use the HPP3. Some don't.
If they do a good job programming, do it just the way you want it, and you need no further changes then the HPP3 will be worthless to you.

Re: Hypertech and custom tuning questions??
If the tuner does a good job, will the result be better than they Hypertech alone. If he tunes it just right, will the custom tuning make more power than the Hypertech? With LS1 Edit, you can adjust way more stuff than the Hypertech. What Im trying to say is...say theres 2 cars that has all the mods that he can do externally and one has the Hypertech and one has custom tuning...who is going to have the better performance with there different tuning?

Re: Hypertech and custom tuning questions??
It's not uncommon (in fact, more often than not it's the case) for cars with Hypertech "tuning" to go slower than stock. All it does is lean the mixture (quite often TOO lean!) and raise the timing advance a bit. No rocket science. If you happen to be a little on the rich side to begin with then you might pick up a little power.
The power gain of a custom tune on a wideband O2 sensor dyno simply can't be approached by what some people not-so affectionately call "Hypercrap Tuning." A custom tune is right for your car instead of just being a one size fits all "tune" like with the Hypertech.

P.S., LS1Edit allows you to change way, WAY, WAY more than an HPP3.
IMO, an HPP3 is a fine tool for adjusting the speedometer after rearend ratio changes, shift points, and fan settings. That's about it.

Re: Hypertech and custom tuning questions??
Once again, the Colonel hit's the nail on the head. At our last dyno day one of the participants brought a Hypertech HPP3 and a JET module for his 01 SS. We made 3 runs in each state of tune; that is, stock, HPP3, and JET. The car made 0 RWHP/2 RWTQ with the HPP3 and went on to make an impressive -2 RWHP/-1 RWTQ with the JET. Uninstall the HPP3, sell it, and buy Edit or a Predator. You'll be a lot happier in the long run. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />
(E-mail me if you want pricing on the Predator)
