Auto Tap 2.03 caution rant inside
[ December 11, 2002, 02:41 PM: Message edited by: Jocko1960 ]
I have worked with plenty of laptops that had problems connecting to a vehicle. Most of the time it's something running on the laptop that is causing the problem. An Infrared serial port (you should disable it in BIOS), Palm Hotsync software, a mouse driver, and/or other software, can all interfere and cause headaches.
AutoTap works just fine on my laptop. Well, except that 2.03 won't read IAC position. I don't like that.

Thanks for your reply. I'm pretty sure the com port is free because I use the laptop to configure Cisco routers, but you never know us nerds make mistakes too. I'll dbl check it tomorrow. I hate to find out that it was my problem and realize I might be going off half cocked. Like I said though if I'm just flat out wrong I'll fess up to it. I'm really not the type of person to go off on something like this but I feel pretty justified at this point. If I do have a miss configured port or resource everyone can call me a dipsh**. Well just once each Anyhow thanks again for your input. That's the reason I posted here because I knew that I could get some response from those who know and use the software.
Even us computer geekoids can make mistakes.
Check your hardware.
I exchanged emails with one of the people responsible for the software with the company when they were working on a fix for the O2 readings and was one of the very first to receive the update via email from them. He was a very nice guy and seemed quite interested in getting the update to me, sorry I can't remember his name ATM but at this point I'm PO'd because I feel that I've paid for something that isn't finished. I'd like to try the other software they sell but at this point I wouldn't feel comfortable buying thier product.
Just for the record if I'm wrong about this and it is a problem on my end as far as the laptop is concerned or I'm contacted by a rep from the company I'll make a public post in this forum admitting to the fact that I was in the wrong or that they have resolved the problem. Till that time I have to stand by my original post.
Thanks again for your suggestion.

Doug,
1. Thanks for saying that I'm a nice guy (I'll make sure my wife reads this post)
2. Sorry you're having a connectivity frustration
The problem you're experiencing seems to be something we see on occasion on Chrylers and some imports, but we're not seeing it on GMs. That said, at this point I invoke Rule #2 of Customer Service, and I'm in the process of "seeing Rule #1.
A. Are you using a regular serial port connection or are you using a USB converter?
B. Are you running off battery power from your computer, or are you using a power supply off your cig. lighter?
C. Is this a consistent problem, or sporadic?
We'll do everything we can to try and get things working properly for you (POS comment not withstanding) LOL

Ask for you money back, or ask them to change over to EFILiveV5 you willn't have any problem with this product, you are using it for a LS1? as EFILiveV5 only support this engine so far.
Try this and see how you go.
Cheers Drew
Well at this point I'm working with Mark who is the Sales Manager and he is diligently trying to resolve my problem. Even after I slammed them so hard last night. Told you he was a good guy. If and when this is resolved I'll be sure to post and sing those praises I spoke of previously.
Thanks for your input.
Doug
Yep, you are a very helpful and a standup guy. Just calling em like I see em. I'm using the battery of the laptop, using the serial port connection and the problem is consistant. The thing is I didn't have this problem before I did the upgrade to 2.03. Since that time I've reloaded the laptop completely. Starting with the OS. It's odd because in my line of work I constantly use the serial port and haven't had any problems with it other than when using AutoTap.
My appologies to all you guys at B&B for raking the software across the coals last night. I should have waited untill I was in a little better mood to post. Maybe I should give up on giving up smoking lol. Maybe Prozac lol.
Anyway just for the record Mark seems to be a great guy and really concerned about his customers. This wasn't a personal slam on him at all, but just the frustration of seeing posts about the same problem coming up a lot and not seeing anything being done to correct it.
Also I wanted to give the DOS version a shot but so far have been unable to locate it for download.
