Default AutoTap 2.03 rant update

Just wanted to let everyone who had read my earlier post about my frustration with AutoTap, know that Mark has corrected my problems. Not only did he correct them he has done it as quickly as humanly possible. I said that he was a standup guy in my original post and he has proven once again that he is and that he cares if a customer is satisfied with the product they offer. I can now recommend Autotap to other people because of the top notch support that I've received in the past 2 or 3 days. Even after blasting the software Mark delt with me in a professional and timely manner and has earned my respect.
I want to thank those of you who offered their input but most of all thanks go out to Mark. U DA Man!!

I hope they can help me get mine working as fast

This is regarding my 2000 Chevy 5.3 truck

I am using 2.03, I don't know what firmware it is. I just got it today (dec 17th)
AT1 with enhanced parameters. I had to get a cable 232A(USB to the autotap cable-9 pin), as my laptop doesn't have that 9 pin plug.
I followed all the directions, and it says unable to connect, check cables, etc. A long list of com ports listed "com port 5 does not exist" com 1 thru 16 listed.
I am using toshiba sattelite 1.4 celeron w/256 mg ram.
Whats the deal? Am I missing something? TIA, Sam

BTW, I just tried disabling the modem, and re-booting to see if that helped. It still didn't work, although, it DID see that no com ports existed MUCH faster. Anyone know WTF is going on?

I will be calling tomorrow, but I would like to get it working right now.

EDIT: I did some digging on here, and found somebody mention a keyspan adapter. It worked like a charm! It would be really cool if such a common problem would be addressed on the Autotap website, to help people after hours, etc. I bought two cables. One was $42 with my discount, and the Keyspan, which was close to the same. Hopefully I can return the useless $42 one!

Samuriarte,
Sorry to hear your having problems. I've heard mention of some having problems with a USB to serial cable. If there is a resolution I'm sure that Mark will get you fixed up ASAP. He has shown me that he cares about making the customer happy. A lot of laptops you buy now don't have serial ports and you have to rely on USB, I think it's a bit premature to eliminate the serial connection all together because there are still compatibility problems with some software out there. I'm sure he'll contact you promptly after they receive your email. Best of luck. I know how frustrating it can be.

If your serial cable is going into a USB port you should only be looking at the USB settings.

Can you see all your USB controllers in the device manager? If not, perhaps you need to install the latest USB drivers for your OS.

Better to ask this question on a PC tech forum.

It sounds to me like USB-serial adaptors suck
*****. That's fuzzy green tennis *****, Mr.
Moderator <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="gr_images/icons/tongue.gif" /> You're not the first person
I've seen with USB-serial beefs. If you get
it to work, then you get to deal with its poor
real-time response, data bandwidth etc.

It sounds like ATAP is set up to look for COM5
but doesn't find anything. Maybe the adaptor
is assigned to another of the COM #s. Have you
tried telling ATAP to use COM1, COM2, ... COM16
in succession, just try finding the live one
the dumb way, sometimes the dumb way is smartest.
