At idle it will no do anything. First check obvious stuff: Plugs, Wires, Cats. Then you should look into a diagnostic device and a tune.

there's nothing to cool the headers. The glow
is just more obvious in the dark. I've seen
this on cars of mine that had headers, without
any special problem being present. Same for my
motorcycle, if it sits and idles high for a
bit the down tubes glow.
Mixture will change exhaust gas temp, but a
gross mixture error isn't necessary to see
some glow, in the dark.
