Bank 1 is defined as the bank that contains cylinder #1.
That defintion then works for left and right hand drive cars and cars with only one bank.
In the US on an LS1 V8 it is the driver side.
In Australia and New Zealand it is the passenger side.

Whichever bank is more forward is the one that contains cylinder #1. General rule of thumb.not just on ls1's...When I say forward, i mean whichever bank sticks out towards the front of the car more.. not rocket science here...
