Why lockup TCC in 3rd during normal driving?
OK, I'm new to the whole A4 world, having just swapped a 4L60E in place of my T-56. But now that I have my part-throttle shift points sorted out, it kinda bugs me that the TCC locks up midway through 3rd gear (around 35 MPH) in around-town driving, then unlocks 5 mph later for the shift into fourth. Seems like a lot of unnecessary locking & unlocking to me, and I wonder if that can be bad for the convertor. I'm thinking about just bumping up the TCC Lock cells in 3rd gear to 106 MPH across the board, so that the TCC will still lock up in 3rd at the end of my quarter-mile runs, but won't be locking & unlocking around town. What do you think? (It can't make that much of a difference in fuel mileage, given that it's only staying locked for about three seconds each time.) Bad idea or OK to do?
