Default HPP3 Good or Bad?

The previous owner of my 98 z28 gave me a HPP3 with the car. I have heard that it is the worst tuning. At the same time I have heard it does a lot for the car. Which is correct? I am thinking about selling it. Yes or No? Also about how much does LS1 Edit cost.

I have also heard bad things about it but I currently have the Hpp3 installed with the 160 Thermostat and I picked up 2 tenths in the quarter. Even If you don't use the tuning it's good for the cooling fans and rev limiter. Just my opinion.

I think the HPP3 is good for people who do some easier mods to their vechiles. Maybe change the t-stat, or want a firmer shift. A change in tire size or rear gears. But if want to get into great detail as to what your car is doing, than get something else.

EDIT is $550. then you need a PC of some sort to run it. it is an excellent tool for the beginner but to really tune your car you need EDIT. if you are running NOS or boost, don't use the power tuning. also, you can do things to a certian extent with EDIT, but without a scan tool of some sort, you really can't dial it in like you should. oh yea, scan software is about $325 or so. hope this helps your decision.

I don't know if it is worth the money, but I've used
mine to adjust my rim/tire size, my gear changes, to use a 160 stat, and to turn the fans on earlier. The
only "tuning" I did was to raise the rev limiter up 200 rpm. I might start playing with the shift points
this year and see what happens. If I didn't need something right away for my gear swap, I would have
probably gone a different route.

I had it when my car was mostly stock (exhaust, MAF, gear change, etc...) and it seemed to help a bit. The added spark advance gives power (if you don't get knock) and the ability to lower the fans and adjust for gear changes is worth the cost.

Now I have gone to heads/cam/headers.....long list and am using LS1Edit to adjust everything. Before I got rid of the HPP3, I downloaded all the peramiters of the HPP3 tune with the Edit and used them as a starting point to make my adjustments (spark, fan temps....that sort of thing.
