what gauge wire should I use for?? What gauge wire should I use for hooking up a trans brake, activation button and arming switch, Harlan 2 step and general automobile wiring? I have several spools of 16 gauge wire and I want to use them. A friend of mine said I should use 12 gauge wire. I said why? The wire that comes with the momentary switch is 18 gauge at best and the wire on the trans brake is even smaller. 12 gauge seems so thick.

Re: what gauge wire should I use for?? how much current does the brake draw? i wouldn't imagine much. you should be just fine with the 16ga. the wire on your switch is probably designed to control a relay anyway so it's gauge isn't that critical.
Re: what gauge wire should I use for?? Yah, I am a first class certified mobile electronics installer and I agree that the 16 guage should be just fine. Especially if it is just the signal wire for a 30 amp relay.
