This is for the guys bitchin' about price....
Supply .vs Demand. That's it.
Wait till after 2004 if you want cheaper stuff.
[EDIT].. But on the sympathetic side.. the '96 is a bastard child. It contains some of the OBD1 and all the OBD2. But its support is apparently discontinued by Carputing.
3 E-mails to Carputing have produced no responses considering controlling "Misfire Detection" that you LS1 guys get to enjoy.
But.. since it's the only game in town.. they can afford to give me the big "Fuuck YOU". In all other respects it works OK.

JAS,
I SAID I'd pay $550 for the tool...
BUT, I am PISSED that I have to pay them another $100.00 for so called "upgrades" when I trusted them by buying in on a Beta that is a joke as far as good software is concerned, and should get the bug fixes until it is a viable product.
I was one of the people suggesting fixes to the bugs, and THEN they are going to cut the Beta tester that paid FULL price (for the product that was a beta) out of those fixes?!
What kind of morals did you guys parents' raise you with? You COMPREHEND that logic they present? That goes beyond capitalist money/greed models! That's pure, unadulterated, opportunistic, unconscionable greed to the nth degree!
I about this product with an understanding that buying additional licenses cost $100 apiece. They changed that before we could get out of beta! Oh, wait! I'm still RUNNING a beta! And THAT's where I'm stuck... unless I pay them MORE than $550.00. That's a RIP-OFF!
I didn't say the product isn't useful or even desirable. My multimeter is desirable... but, I don't expect to PAY full price against a test one that doesn't have all the features in the finshed version that I expect, or reasonable controls with which to use it.
You advocates of Carputing's marketing logic are saying we should agree to pay full price for a new beta product, and get left out in the cold when the product is completed. Heck, it STILL isn't completed. It's not completed until a user can access all the tables in the PCM related to tuning the car.
It's not even a real application until they give you a program that has BASIC, EXPECTED attributes like the ability to adjust it to the size screen you are using, or see BUTTONS where the text does not run off the face of the button, or quirky errors or bugs pop up all over the place.
I'm not arguing the desirability or worth of the concept of LS1-Edit.
I guess what I'm saying and maybe not making plain, JAS, is that they sold me a product and left me with the beta, and expect me to pay MORE to get the product. That's WRONG, JAS. That's unethical... its a SIN!
BTW, how ya doin', man?

Michael - What's up?
I never said it was morally or ethically right. Hey Michael, what do you call a business that is morally and ethically run? Bankrupt. LOLs
I'm impressed that Ken that the _____ to MAKE the program in the first place. From what I heard he didn't know VB or much about PCMs before LT1edit but had the motivation to get off his *** and do a shitload of research and learn something. I have also heard that he got screwed on LT1Edit by groups of people too when he released it! Like any business, you have to recoup your loses and it just happens that the costs are passed on to the LS1 users. Fair or not. Part of life everyday.
I'm not against you, I'm with you. I'm in the same boat remember! It is a business decision that they made to do this. When you have no competition, the best your customers can do is bitch because fact says that you STILL need the program to perform task. However, in the long run no good deed goes unpunished.
Have faith Michael and

you guys are somewhat right on the price.
Ls1 owners (STEREOTYPE, no offence please) Fairly well off, willing to pay $25K+ on an impractical car. Willing to pay excessive money for mods. (not including vette guys, who even compared to the f-cars are getting ripped on parts, but then again, they're $45K cars, and the owners of new $45K cars, are able to spend more on mods, than say, the owners of the used f-body's ($11-18K buy price range)
So as long as that is the case, these companies (not singling out carputing, but a lot of the "ls1 specific" parts and the high price)
When these cars get and affordable to almost anybody who works and can work on a car, the prices cannot stay this expensive, as the products will not sell. I have been trying to find an economical solution to modifying my PCM, just simple stuff, fan turn on, !cags, ect. But i am left with 3 "uneconomical" options. Diablo, superchips, and HPP3, all "not flexible" programers. So as long as this is the case, anybody who makes a "flexible" programer, can charge a premium for it, as it is better than the competion.
Ryan.
