Default TB Bump-Stop Mod

Ok, so I'm wanting to do the bump-stop mod on my throttle body. I remember seeing on IU a while back that you measure the voltage at the TPS and when it gets to a certain reading, you stop grinding.

Well, I went back yesterday and now they're saying to use ATAP and take the reading in degrees of the TPS. Anyone remember the voltage that should be used when doing this mod?

I don't have ATAP or EFILive5 and would like to do this w/o buying any software.

Thanks,
Kyle

4.6 is what Ive told you should stop at. If you go over 4.7 or hit it I have heard it will set a code off.

Mine is at 4.6 and I saw a noticeable increase in how far the throttle blade was coming open.

When you do grind make sure you check it with the gas pedal instead of doing it by hand, there could be some slack in the system vs doing it by hand.

Good Luck

If you have a DIGITAL VOM stop at 4.64 VDC. The DTC sets at 4.65 VDC. Check voltage OFTEN while grinding. When you get close to 4.64 VDC STOP GRINDING and make the FINE TUNE adjustment of the last few hundredths of a volt by bending the cam tab a tiny bit. Don't grind too much. The closed throttle voltage should be near 0.6 VDC.

Two other thing to keep in mind:

1. Make sure your throttle cable is "tight". Mine was so stretched out (only 35k miles), I kept grinding and the voltage stopped going up! Unfortunatley I was using a obd-2 scanner to check the voltage (from inside the car) so I did not notice the throttle stop was not even hitting! There is a little black plastic clip on the throttle cable that allows easy adjusting of the cable....

2. Don't get to worried about going over the 4.64 mark. A little JB Weld works great <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I would HIGHLY recommend using autotap though. Find someone in your area that has it and use it. I grinded mine to 89.8*. 90 sets off a code. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />
