Default tuning after header install

what tuning should I do after installing hooker long tubes? It smells like its pretty rich. My exhaust is hooker long tubes, no cats to borla cat back. I have the predator tuning but im new to tuning and im not sure what to change or how much. also on the intake side, i have slp cold air and ported mafs. Another thing of topic of tuning is that im getting bad, i dunno, brapping sound at around 1500 r's and other various speeds. sounds terrible does anybody know how to remedy this? I didnt think it would sound like this with a borla(i tried all 3 plates and now have the pass. side blocked off but still does it), could it have anything to do with detonation? im getting a slight tick from the engine now so maybe its all related. all i know is I need some help straightening everything out, and any advice you could give would be greatly appreciated. also had ngk tr55 plugs put in. sorry for the small novel of a post.

My car also ran really rich after the longtube install. I changed my MAF back to stock, and it feels better, although I'm not sure if it leaned out any.

The slight ticking in your engine probably is nothing to worry about. Mine does it too. I think it is just the longtubes.

As for that "blapping" you are hearing at 1500 RPM... That's rasp. You should post about that in the External engine section, or just do a search in there because there are A LOT of threads dealing with rasp following a long tube install.

Hope this helped some.

Also, if you think you are running rich, get a MAFT, and throw your car on a dyno. They can read your A/F ratio, and if you are rich, you can adjust it with the MAFT.

mine did that too. i got atap and checked it out, and it said the O2 was reading high, and it was using the $hit out of my gas. but after 100 miles it cleared itself up and i havent had any more probs with it.

Except under WOT, the computer will always try to maintain 14.6 or 14.7 AFR. The computer may learn after a certain amount of driving. I haven't installed headers yet, so I guess I'll find out when I do.

First off I would say you need to do some ATAP or EFIlive data logging to determine what is going on before you change anything. Do you have or know anyone who has either of these two data loggers or use your Predator and watch the parameters live?? Do some logging of your cruise LTFT cells and I think you will find that they are probably running anyhwere for +6 to + 20 depending on your situation which will make you run rich in WOT as mine is. Once your LTFTs are to 0 or slightly - you will be okay as far as adding extra fuel at WOT. You will still need to determine you WOT A/F, best bet is a wide band dyno for this <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I would say drive it some and your computer will "learn" and get straightened out for the part throttle. Use your Predator to work on the WOT settings.

I'm no expert, but I'm learning with mine.

Where are you in VA? Ever make it up to MD - Capitol Raceway?

I just purchased a MAFT so I can adjust my part throttle fuel. I have the Predator and it only allows you to chnage the fuel mixture at WOT. I also have EFI live, so if your close to Fairfax, VA we could get together and log some info.
