From: sojourning....looking for my city whose builder and maker is God.
I have Autotap and EFILive V5, EFILive is MUCH easier to use and it is capable of doing a lot more as well with the bi-directional controls. So my vote is for EFILive.
I don't have either one.. but plan on purchasing efi live within the next week. There are a few sponsors over to the right.. that sell it.. I think tbyrne motorsports and thunder racing sell it. There may be others as well..

I have a question.. a bit confused.. If you buy efi live v5 pro (w/ bi-directional cables) does it come with a version of A-Tap? I think the answer is no.. but I keep getting the impression that it does. Can anybody clarify this for me..Thanks,

Both software programs (EFILiveV5 and AutoTap) use the same interface cable and that interface cable is called "AutoTap". And yes, EFILiveV5 comes with the "AutoTap" interface cable.
However if you want to use the AutoTap software with the cable that ships with EFILiveV5 then you need to purchase a registration key to enable the AutoTap software to work with the AutoTap interface cable.
And if you want to use the EFILiveV5 software with the cable that ships with AutoTap then you need to purchase a registration key to enable the EFILiveV5 software to work with the AutoTap interface cable.

What exactly do you guys mean by "bidirectional" controls.
To me it sounds like you can adjust PCM settings with it. So I take it you don't need LS1 edit?
What functions, controls, or tools does EFIlive have over Autotap?
For those that have dealt with both companies, how is the customer service?
Thanx in advance for any help.

You can go to the B&B Electronics web site and see a list of what all EFILiveV5 will do bi-directionally I believe. It's not as comprehensive as LS1Edit though. Hang on before you buy LS1Edit. In the next month, Tunercat is supposed to be releasing their less expensive LS1 tuning software.

The main use for bi-directional controls is for diagnostic/testing purposes.
The controls are similar to the controls offered by GM's Tech2 scan tool.
They are not a substitute for an edit-type program. You cannot permanently alter the calibrations in your PCM using EFILiveV5.
If you want to re-flash your PCM's calibrations you will need an edit-type program.

EFILive is designed specifically for use with the LS1. If that is all you need it for, go with it. I haven't used the Auto tap for Windows but I have read many post where people were dissatisfied with the Autotap Windows software. The EFILive program also has the capability to give you faster data collection rates. Software updates are free and I have had quick responses via email to questions I had about using the software. As far as purchasing the unit, you may find a better price from one of the supporting vendors, rather than going to B&B directly.

I don't feel you should have to pay for updates if the error is on the manufacturer/programmers side. Upgrades is a different story though.
I am going to wait and see how this Tuner Cat editing program turns out. If there are improved results/controls/support for the program then i'll take that route.
