Default tune maf or speed density tune????

i have a 00 z28 w/ a ported tb and ported maf. the car surges at low rpms and doesnt run well w/ maf hooked up. i have hp tuners and want to tune the car. should i tune the car to run better w/ the ported maf, or should i ditch the maf and just speed density tune the car? my othe rmods ar cold/ram air and flow master hooked uo to some qtp headers and qtp y pipe w/ cut outs and w/o cats .

Ported MAF is the root of your troubles. A stocker would be
more suitable. You can do a lot of tuning to fix it, a lot of
tuning to ditch it, or just a little tuning against a more sane
base and be happy. If I were you I'd acquire a stock MAF
and work the car over until it's otherwise tight, without that
skew factor. Then decide whether it's worth the work to use
a ported MAF, after that (or just descreen). Too many
mystery variables at once makes a messy tuning exercise.

so is it gonna be difficult to tune for this maf? the maf was cut and smoothed and also it was descreened. it is extreemly large. i used a generic obdII scanner to read my maf values for ltft and at some points it got to +13 so i cut it off b/c that seemed too lean for the engine. a replacement maf is out of the question due to money issues at the momment. i just need to tune my car to run again.
