SES after headers
I have installed jet hot hot emission legal headers with magnaflow cats. I drove open headers for four miles to exhaust shop. At first I had SES codes saying the heater for the o2 sensors were malfunctioning. I'm assuming this was because of all the air from the open headers. I got these removed after I installed the the y and cats. Now after about 5 days of driving I have a code for my left header sensor and right sensor after the cat. both showing the same thing, about the heater circuit malfunction. What gives? Could it be my open cutout causing too much ambient air or from the extra rich fuel after the headers.
It's not from the cutout. I had headers for about a year before I got that code once it got really cold outside (I moved from San Diego to Charleston and it showed up when the temp dropped to about 25 outside). From what I understand it's just because the sensors are further away from the motor and the exhaust doesn't heat up the sensor as fast as it used to...not a big deal just have the codes deleted.
From my understanding, the heater circuit code does not affect performance at all. If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.
As long as you're not getting insufficient switching codes, I think you could just have someone local w/tuning software tune out the heater code to keep the SES light from coming on and you'll be good to go.
Your other option is to replace your front o2's with corvette rear o2's (Bosche 13111) that have a better heater circuit as well as longer wires, eliminating the need for o2 extensions. Hopefully someone else will chime in here, cuz I'm in the same boat.....don't wanna replace o2's if I don't have to!

I had some codes for the o2s one I put on the LTs untill I heard about using the rear o2s off a C5. With those I didn't even need the o2 extensions and no more SES light. I can't remember what code I was getting but, Hope it helps
