Default Stock T-Stat Fan Settings

I have a stock t-stat and I would like to reprogram my fans. I searched but couldn't find a clear answer to my question. How does F1 196/188 and F2 198/190 sound? TIA

stock is 192 or 195 if i remember correctly...so i wouldnt have the fan turn on below the thermo temp otherwise the fans will never turn off once you hit operating temp.

I do not recall what the stock thermostat rating is but it is important to keep your fan off times a couple of degrees above it. Example, if you have a 195 deg thermostat, F1 could be 204/197 and F2 206/198. If you do not keep your fan off temp above the thermostat your fan(s) will run continuously. Also, bi-metal thermostats are not a precision sensor, especially as they age, so keep your off temps further away from old ones.

Hmm, I thought the stock was 180-185, now you've got me wondering. Anyone know for sure what the stock t-stat runs?

Correct numbers are.

Low on/off. 226/219*
high on/off. 234/227*

i've found most stock tstats to be 180*. I have come across a few 00 cars that appeared to have a 195* stat.

Odd. its hit or miss. What region of the country was the car purchased? I wonder if it has anything to do with california and east coast emissions standards.

To be safe, I'll assume I have a 195 and use the settings Dynocar suggested until I can verify the actual temp. So does F1 204/197 and F2 206/198 sound good?

Do your have hpt or efi live? Either activate both your fans at idle or cruise down the freeway and see what temp your reading. Usually it'll be about 8 to 15* hotter than the actual Tstat. Set the fans accordingly.

For ex. if your cruising down the freeway in 50* weather and your current temp is 170* set the low fans to come on at 175* ect.

That is actually pretty accurate. In 50* weather, my temperature reading is 173* and my thermostat is a Hypertech 160*.

We are tuning a twin turbo 01 Vette right now and it must have a 195 deg thermostat, here is why I say that. When I set the F1 and F2 to turn off at less then 194, the fans turned on but never turned off and the coolant temp would not go below 194. So I turned each fan off slightly above 195, and they work fine now, seen this many times. These 195+ thermostats are for emissions purposes.
