Default IAT sensor fooling?

hey guys, ive been doing some searching on ebay for various lt1 items and came across a 'chip' that people sell that hooks into your IAT sensor. basically they sell it for 10 bucks or so but its essentially just a resistor that fools your ecu to think your IAT is lower than it would be. by doing a bit of more research on resistors, you can essnetially make your IAT any degree you would like. the ones on ebay make your IAT about 56°. Now, im curious of two things. What SHOULD stock IAT temp read, and is this resistor safe? I can easily buy one for under a dollar at radio shack. What are some pros/cons for this resistor mod. Thanks guys

Yup, as ninobrn99 said, don't do it. The ECM uses it as a vital link to the conditions around you. If you fool it to think it is actually colder then it is, it will go into spark adder tables and multipliers which can lead to detonation, not a good thing.

They call it a chip but where is the Germanium, the Silion, the Arsenic? Ummm no semiconductors at all. Just a wire-wound, epoxy dipped resistor.

What a rip-off!
