Default HPT 2 or 3 bar setup?

I have been looking but can't find, and also having conflicting answers from different people. Basically 2 bar map should only read ~14.7 psi of boost, but some people have been trying to pursuade me that the HPT 2 bar setup is good for ~20?

is this true?

If not, then I need the 3 bar setup .

thanks,

the 2 bar setup only allows tuning up to 210 kpa, which would be 14.7 psi. I guess you could just set the fuel at the highest level to accomodate higher boost levels, but you'd run rich until you hit your final boost level. Hope that helps.

Thats what I thought.

Now the question becomes, how to run 3 bar on a 99 pcm? Will it be ok to reflash it with 2000 software to support the 3bar or are there implications?

funny you ask that...i just sent an email to keith about that last night cuz i noticed I couldnt apply 3 bar to the 99 OS's I had on file. Not sure what you'd have to do in that case...if its as easy as just grabbing a stock 00+ OS & modifying it & plopping it in or what.

stock 99 right now, will need to reflash with a 2000 OS to support your 3 bar SD addition correct? Any implications with this?

thanks,

I think we can just use my 2000 file tiago we have licenses for all the years so we should be able to just load it. The PCMS for the 99-02 are all the same and 99,00 are the same. Magnus clarification please. This is being done with Conleys software which has all the years with the II and III bar options.

I cant see it being a problem...the only thing you'd run into with hpt is you'd loose your vin # otherwise it would break their licensing style.

I believe you can edit the vin that should not be a big deal. Dont quote me on that but I believe the option is there. I have not had to edit a vin yet so that why I cant say for certain. I guess there is a first time for everything.

So if someone is running a 2 bar SD tune and passed 14.7psi to lets say 16psi he would need to add fuel via PE vs RPM?

Isnt tunning a 3 bar harder than a 2 bar? Im asking because if its the same i might as well just get a 3 bar sensor now even though im running under 15psi so in the future when i run more than 15psi i dont need to tune again.

AutoZone.com carries MAP sensors. They have four different kinds:

2-Bar MAP sensor (Stock style) $40.99 2312
3-Bar MAP Sensor (Stock style) $53.99 PN 2313
2-Bar MAP sensor (MSD Controls) $60.99 23121
3-Bar MAP Sensor (MSD Controls) $60.99 23131

Will any of these work?

Summit carries all of those as well. I just ordered the 2312. Now I need to get the 2 Bar HPT upgrade.
