crank position sensor While driving yesterday afternoon, my car began to sputter backfire through the exhaust,then shut off. I put it in park and turned the ignition off. Turn the key and the car statted right up and drove home perfectly.
Later that night on my way to work my car did the same thing, Sputter, backfire through the exhaust, and then shut off. This time a friend was driving behind me and said that flames shot out of my mufflers. Again the car started right back up, but repeated the problem about three miles later.
I drove home this morning (eight hours later) without any problems. When I got and ran HPT, it showed a code for my crank position sensor. I cleared the code and let the car run until it reached operating temp. No problems.
Any advice or comments would be helpful. thanks.

Verdad Gallardo Don't know. I don't have HPT, I just swaped the sensor cleared the code and it ran good for about 2 weeks. Now its acting up again. Can't figure out how it ran 60k miles without a problem and now I have had 2 go bad in the last 1k miles.
