Default HELP!! Will a 2002 LS1 Engine work in a 1998 Vette with 1998 PCM and Harness???

I have a 1998 C5 Vette and purchased a new 2002 Vette LS1 to replace my blown-up 1998 Vette LS1. The engine just arrived at the dealership awaiting installation.

After doing some searches in this forum regarding 1998 PCM/wire harness differences from 99+ cars, I'm starting to worry big time!!

Will this 2002 engine work with my 1998 PCM and wiring harness? If not, what kind of changes would need to be made (hopefully some simple pins/sensor/re-flash of PCM stuff)?? Do I have to buy a 2002 PCM and harness?

Your help is greatly appreciated!!!

Any LS1 engine can be controlled by any LS1 PCM. Problems arise if you try to use a 97 or 98 PCM with a later wiring harness but as long as PCM and wiring stay together, all is well.

you'll want to get a 98 oil pressure sensor and temperature sensor (may be a few other sensors? but I'm not 100% sure about others), then you can use the 02 LS1 engine w/a 98 PCM and harness

Can I use the sensors from my old (1998) engine and put them in the new (2002) engine?

yes you can

2 other things to keep in mind... the 2002 motor will have an LS6 intake on it (unless you only bought shortblock?)

Also the 02 motor has a smaller camshaft than your 98 did...

The PCM should be able to correct for these differences (well , you'll get the EGR error code) but some quick PCM tweaking and you should be fine

It's funny but the motor came with everything except the intake. I had to purchase that seperately. I did make sure to buy the 2001-2004 LS1/LS6 intake rather than use my old intake.

I wonder if i could hook up a Hypertech programmer to it afterwards. They make a 1999-2004 version and a 1997-1998 version. The web-site says that it will look at my car's VIN # and thus wouldn't it think that a 1998 engine was in there? But if i buy a 1999-2004 version of the programmer, wouldn't it not be compatiable with a 1998 PCM?

if you can find someone to buy that junk (Hypertech programmer) then sell it

a 2001/2004 intake is an LS6, only 98-00 are LS1

The hypertech would have to be for the PCM so 97-98... you're mixing parts (LS6 intake, 01/02 cam) so I wouldn't use it (well I wouldn't use it normally since it's a joke as far as tuning goes.... but in your case I especially wouldn't usea hypertech)
