Default SD vs. MAF

I have an '04 Chevy pu w/a forged 5.7 and 12+ psi of sts boost. Having trouble gettng the MAF tune just right. Tuner suggests changing to SD tune. What are the advantages & disadvantages of the change?
thx

SD tune - advantage = you don't have to tune around the MAF. Just one less thing to muck up your tune.

MAF tune - advantage = a lot of fidelity in adjusting the fuel compared to the airflow. That's why the EPA likes them.

There's more to it, but them's the basics.

I'm in the same boat, tuning the MAF that is.

Everyone else seems to think that the final tuning of the MAF is easier. I think tuning the VE table was WAY easier.

Tuning the VE table, I get my LTFTs perfect (-2) for ALL part throttle scenarios. My throttle response and TQ feels great.

Set my MAF to the dynamic airflow. Then turn the MAF back on....... Car goes way rich at idle and under 3k rpms. LTFTs are all over the place (way negative below 3k, positve on decel). And the car feels much slower.

Maybe I'll get it right after messing with it some more. I dunno. I'm sure it would be easier with a wideband.

I think that's BS. I have tuned MAF systems running 12-14lbs of boost. SD will work but MAF will too. Get a new tuner.

Well yeah once the MAF max's it becomes a non-issue pretty quickly, and most people won't notice the difference down low to realize if there's a MAF under the hood or not.

Here's something I added along those lines concerning cars that don't max the MAF or switch to air calculation until 4000 like most LS1s.

But then I guess everyone knows I'm a MAF hater

Yes, the maf and map are similar at WOT. They both max out the signal. So it doesn't matter what system is used durring a steady state (such as WOT).

My MAP dosn't "max out" at WOT, it only goes to 150 kPa. It can go to 205 kPa, so it's not maxed like the MAF.

Wow, all you need now is one of those turbo-thingies.
