Will MSD coils affect the part thorttle AFR for tunning???? i ask this because of their ability to produce multiple sparks below 3000rpm's.

Seriously, MSD coils are an apperance mod, not a performance mod.

Well that hasn't technically been proven yet.

But it's general knowledge that the factory LS1 coils are pretty bad ***. And have held some serious HP. There really is no need to spend the money in my mind.

You can paint your factory coils for a lot cheaper

I have to disagree MSD's are worth every penny to me! I have heard of the stock coils arcing on the inside and have been the cause for alot of so called piston slap tick noise! I have also noticed everyone I saw using them was making stout hp & torqe #'s.

What you just said, makes no sense. Absolutely no sense....

well they're expensive, but i did notice crisp throttle response and fuel economy increase, itll pay off over time i guess, i dont regret getting them im the only one that has em in my area, ill be running nitrous and a cam this summer so maybe ill see even more HP with them, i dynoed 333hp & 352tq, with the mods in my sig at 4000ft above sea level on a dynojet i think those are good numbers, im hoping for 500 on the juice and the cam!!!

back to what i asked in the first place, what do you guys think,????

You you think that these MSD coils could allow for longer spark dwell time without signifigantly reducing the life of the coils?

Bad *** ta what ever bro! Dont get them then simple as that. But I know a better ignition always boosts some power and torqe whether it be on a ls1 or a Yamaha Banshee!

the msd coils have extra connectors on them for a controller that they will be coming out with. i have not heard of any performance gain with them just bolted on. kind of a planning for the future type solution

Is it possible MSD coild produce more spark energy? Just speculating here.... and would not necessitate as much dwell time as stock coils?

have anyone though about that possibility?

Stock coils have enough energy to ignite an air fuel charge in 1500hp turbo beasts, I really don't think for my little 500hp street car there's going to be any need for upgrading.

Reducing spark dwell doesn't give any benefits.
Increasing spark dwell is rumored to give benefits, but this has to be done through tuning and it decreases the life of stock coils. Logic would be that it does the same to the MSD's, the only question is about how long they will last.

Seriously guys, buying new coils for an LS1 is about like buying a "Tornado" mod or an airfoil for an LT1. Let it go, there's no point.

Actually, the guy that said the msd's are an appearance mod is exactly correct. However, in the future they may aid in adding a two-step rev limiter, but for now they just make my engine bay look better.
