Default VE tabel question

My car was tuned by a local tuner. I was comparing my current VE table to a stock VE table and all my current values are less than stock. After adding mods to the car eg cam, headers, LSx intake etc. shouldn't the VE values be larger?

mods are in my sig.

My VE table is globally 24% less than stock.

I also noticed my MAF table is slightly increased from stock. Is that due to the 90mm intake and throttle body?

It looks like I have alot of work ahead of me getting this tune right.

MAF was most likely increased to accomodate the airflow efficiencies of your mods, why the VE table was just plainly reduced by 24% globally is a choice made by your tuner that I can't say why. Keep in mind when you are running MAF mode, it controls the majority of your fueling.

Not sure what it means. But my stock table was higher in low rpms, and was lower in high rpms than my current tune. Mods in sig.

The car was tuned ~2 years ago with small updates from the tuner over the following years to try and eliviate some issues. I bought the software in an effort to remedy the problems myself as taking a day off work each time I needed to the tune tweaked was costing me more than buying the software.

So I really was not critiquing the work; I was merely trying to understand WHY he did what he did so I can gain a better understanding of the tuning process and find the remedy for my idle issues w/o a ton of experimentation.

Because there are very few tuners that do things correctly. Get your WOT A/F down is a piece of cake compared to getting the VE and MAF tables calibrated correctly. It's not hard it just takes a lot of time. Time that most tuners don't allow for. Fuel trims and the MAF can hide a very poor VE calibration especially if the customer doesn't have the knowledge to interpret the scan data and A/F data themselves.

Unfortunately too many people have blind faith that their tuner is doing the right things. How many guys prop up their tuner around here but actually have no idea if their tune is good or not? The car runs and doesn't stall so it must be correct, right?
