Question Big Pcm Question!!! Please Help!!!

I have a 1998 z28 w/ an 00 LS1. My question is this, will a 98 pcm run the 00 LS1? Im not sure if the 00 computer is in the car or if the 98 is in it since I didn't do the work myself. I bought the car and at the time didn't think it would matter. I also would like to know if I decided to use a programmer would it have to be for whatever pcm is in the car? The car is running but the exhaust smells a little lean and also would there be any markings on the pcm that would tell me what year model it is out of? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

98 pcm's are cast aluminum and have heat sinks on both sides of the pcm, where the 99+ does not, and has a smooth side, with a silver aluminum cover bolted on the other side.

without seeing the car, i'm 95% sure it still has a 98 pcm, since the swap is a total pain to put a newer pcm in the car.

I've pulled the computer out and it does have heatsinks on both sides. Will the 98 hurt anything in the long run or not? If I wanted to put the 00 pcm in would I need the complete wiring harness for it also?
