hypertech pp3 a complete waste?
I've done a lot of reading on this forum and various others about hypertech. I seems that everyone thinks it is complete garbage. Does this programmer not produce any power gains? I know I've seen a few episodes of Horsepower TV where they claimed the hypertech increased power and torque by x amount.
I installed mine at the same time as my headers and catback so its hard for me say if it's worth it or not in terms of power gains. I did notice a huge improvement in the way the auto shifts though.

They're good for the little things like fans, gears, tire heights, and shifts (A4s). The tune is pretty much a weak canned tune designed for a stock car. So, I wouldn't expect much on f-bodies - especially modified ones.

It's good for what it does. It's by no means a replacement for HPtuners or EFI live but it can be a very good tool. I used mine a lot for shift points, gear ratio changes, and tire sizes before I got HPT. They are a little more useful for auto cars. For as cheap as they are going for used.....it's not a bad deal IMO.

I have had one since '99 and used everything but the power tune. Definitely not worth the full price it is sold for, since you can get the basic efi/HP tuners for 'bout $100 more and get much more functionality. I got EFIlive recently, selling my HPP3.

If you have an A4 car and aren't going to mod the hell out of it they're fine. If you have an M6 or are going to do lots of changes and go for lots of power they're not worth it. I'm selling mine too for 97/98 LS1 vehicles for $200 o.b.o.
