Angry POS VATS has me stranded!



Stuck at home, late for work and the car won't start!
Tried both sets of keys and tried compressed air in the ignition. Nothing...
Any way to override or disable VATS to get going.

Please help

Notified my extended warranty company then called my local Chevy dealer, spoke with the service manager, getting it towed to the chevy dealer. Told him what was going on and they are familiar with VATS/ignition issues.
Going to get a rental car while I'm at it. Wonder if they'll rent me out a C6

I thought I had a vats issue. turned out it was the ignition relay. I think that is pretty common too. At first, it would crank and not start. Swapped the ignition and starter relays, then it wouldn't crank. Then I knew the relay was bad.

It won't crank at all. All power, radio and gauges work but it wouldn't start.
So the tow truck (flat bed of course) pulls up and I try to start the car again and boom, it fires right up! Regardless, I'm not going through this again so it's at the dealer and I rented a 2006 Crossfire. Pretty cool car.
I hope to hear something by tomorrow.

VATS resets after so many minutes after you try to start it. This happened to me until I bypassed it.

You might have the opposite. It might be the starter relay. But it could be the vats as well. Just wanted to throw that idea in since it is so quick and easy to verify.

I though I had a vats issue, so I relinked via hptuners. I had to open rear hatch and close it to get my laptop. That little bit of vibration freed the stuck relay. I thought I solved it when I turned vats off via hptuners. Only after I still had the intermittment issue did I look harder at what I did to fix it.

Thanks for the feedback.

Diagnosis: VATS down. Need to replace ignition module with two new ignition keys. Parts are in stock.

Waiting for extended warranty co. to authorize repairs and rental. Keeping fingers crossed ...

most likely what happened:
you had some gunk or something on the contacts.... this sent a failure and VATS kicked in.

then everytime you retry with the wrong resistance, it adds ~4mins to the wait peroid...
by the time the tow truck came around, the timeout was up, and it started.

I actually used contact cleaner as well as compressed air to clean out the ignition module. Tried cleaning the resistors with an eraser on both sets of keys. Every three minutes the security light would go out and I would try to start it again with no success (until the tow truck arrived). This happened on my 99 Z28 but it would always start after five to ten minutes
