Default Can tuning be done this way???

I have a buddy with a 2000 ls1 f body same year as mine and he wants to know if he can send me his computer/Ecm and have me tune on it,delete codes,cags etc.Can i take his computer and plug it into my car to read it and write it??.Thanks I have hp tuners thanks

Yea, you can do that. Is your hptuners year locked or vin locked? If it's vin locked just go down to the dealer have them flash his ecu to your vin.

i dont think its vin locked but not sure,it shouldnt be.Thanks for the help

Yes, you can do that,

There is a couple of RX7's with pcm's I flashed years ago using my car as a "bench harness"

I don't think it is this easy to get around their licensing program.

I thought HP tuners was year and make locked not VIN locked.

You can get it VIN licensed now. Even the VIN licensed is locked to the PCM, so if you have a license for his VIN number then yes it will work, also if you have his year model itll work as long as his pcm is compatible with your car's year model. I would just spend the $125 and get some cables and tune it off your desktop or laptop. It would benefit you in the long run if you do more this way.

well he lives in florida and i live in new york so that why were going to try it.he doesnt have any idea how to do it himself either.i guess we will find out how it works out
