I could open the throttle screw up a little so it starts better but then the IAC counts would bottom out at idle and it would surge.
That is my main problem. its like a catch 22. if it gets enuff air to start right up then it gets too much air to idle. if it gets enuff air to idle right it doesn't get enuff air to start right.
The problem (i think) is that my converter is too light. its a tiny 8" converter that hardly weighs anything so it takes very little air to keep the car at idle. That and everyone i've talked to says that 98's are harder to tune.

I have found that 98s are harder to tune as well, but I've adapted a lot of the 2002 settings into my tune which has helped significantly. Adapted the ones that made sense at least, while doing a manual comparison between stock 98 and 02 files.

I received your files and am taking a look at them.

Any leads yet? im having almost the same issue. Got the RAF dialed in, the VE table is 0/-2 at idle, timing is at 22* When I go to start the car the RPM will jump up and down till it warms up then it will catch a steady idle. You turn the car off then try to restart its a PITA, it will almost die and the RPMs jump up and down again for a min or so. I drilled the TB pretty good size and it would start fine then but like you said the IAC would bottom out at 0 then cause issues. You add more the the RAF and it helps a little but not much. Ive seen a couple things people have mentioned in here Im going to try later on. Its really annoying when your out and about and the damn thing wants to act all crazy when you start it. When you do figure it out, be sure to post up. Good luck....

HAHA what a simple fix...

I believe Ive got mine somewhat nailed down. I played with the IAC effective area, as well as the Start up Airflow tables. I can start the car and the RPMs jump to 1200-1300 then slowly go lower to 900-950 where it will stay. This is fine with me as long as the RPMs are jumping around like crazy..
