Default rpms hang in netural

i notice when my h\c car (a4) is in park or netural (and not moving) that occasionally when i blip the throddle they sometimes hang arround 2000rpms for a few secconds.. if i put the car in gear or hit the throddle again it seems to fix the problem but its still annoying.. any advise?

Follower decay and delay are your culprits, easily tuned out.

I believe ringram is referring to throttle follower and throttle follower decay - not throttle cracker.

i thought the cracker was a table to allow more air in to the engine while the delay and decay were telling the pcm how and when to reduce the values found in the cracker table .. therefore if the cracker is diasbled what would be the point of messing with the decay tables

look at their definitions....they are completely different and function separately. Throttle Follower functions as commanded by the table (see table) - even at rest.

from EFILive:

Throttle Follower Airflow -
Airflow values added to idle airflow when the throttle follower function is active.
This value is multiplied by {B4316} "Throttle Follower Airflow RPM Multiplier" to obtain the final throttle follower airflow value.

If both the throttle cracker airflow and the throttle follower airflow are non zero, then the sum of both airflows is added to the idle airflow.

Throttle Cracker Airflow-
Airflow values added to idle airflow when the throttle cracker function is active and the transmission is in gear.

If both the throttle cracker airflow and the throttle follower airflow are non zero, then the sum of both airflows is added to the idle airflow.

RAF or Desired Airflow -

Used to reduce airflow as the engine warms up.
Although listed in the "Idle" section, this calibration also controls the base airflow for non-idle conditions.
