Default Tuning for fuel mileage ?s.

Looking for some general info. how to tune for fuel mileage, what to do, what to look for, ect. I thinking of putting a restrictor plate on, reducing the incoming air, which would require less fuel. Is this possible?

Thanks.

Thinking of putting a D.O.D engine in a Fox body Mustang.
Thanks.

restrictor plate will increase vacuum.

Vacuum is BAD for fuel economy, as you have pumping losses.

Things that help fuel economy.

Timing, locked torque converter, and EGR are just a few.

What kind of timing, lower or higher?

Lower the O2 switch points for your cruising airflow/rpm.

1. Go to Home Depot.

2. Purchase 2x4x4 block of wood.

3. Return to car and place block of wood behind gas pedal.

Congratulations! You should now see a 5~50% increase in gas mileage.

Hmmm...I should do one of those 2am infomercials and sell blocks of wood for $19.95 + $5.95 shipping and handling.

I read Jimmy's thread on the HPT forum about that a while back... how do you determine which airflow mode corresponds to which driving condition?

I'd tweak TC lockup first

Go for a drive and log dynamic air in g/sec. Figure out what that is during steady state cruise. Once you have the g/sec range (for example: 28-44 g/sec) that you run in during cruising adjust your O2 switch point accordingly.

There are only 9 airflow modes that can be selected in the rich/lean airflow mode table. I selected 2 modes to be my lean cruising settings and dropped the switchpoints in those areas to 3xx mv.
