Default two step function on Gen 7.. whos using it?

Hey guys,

I am preparing to track the car for the first time since it has come alive.. a few issues have held me back but have been resolved.. to be expected on a project like this.

My question is simple.. I run the Gen 7 DFI and it has a boost building function or two step. I was wondering if anyone here has tried using it and has any advise on the matter... car is an M6 car.. 355 low comp motor with a T74GTS turbo. I am going to be running baout 18 pounds of boost the first time out on race gas.

the dfi manual is not very informative on how to use this setup. from reading I have gathered to switch it off the clutch. and it says once I launch and go into boost it should deactivate until boost drops back below the preset value with the clutch in. anyways if anyone has played with this function and has some advise to someone trying it for the first time.. I am all ears! thanks in advance!

try without it, ive used both on my old gen 7 and the bs3, both are very aggressive.

put a switch so that when the clutch is in the 2 step is on. then when you dump it you will come off and resume to stock rev limit.

warning you will probably break stuff using this. i broke two output shafts, a driveshaft, and a ring and pinion...then stopped using it.

MM,

thanks for the heads up about breaking stuff... I don't suppose there is a happy medium between violent launches and just helping get the shaft up to speed a little bit more then free revving/ mayb like leaving with the rev limit at say 2500 rpm?

thanks in advance!

On slicks I use the digital 6's 2 step leaving at 4,400 with around 7-9lbs of boost.

I have it switched off the parking brake, so I pull the brake (while holding the button in so i can easily release it). With the brake engaged go WOT and bring the clutch pedal up until it just slightly loads the drivetrain (then quickly let the pedal out while dropping the parking brake to launch).

Ran 1.49-1.51 60fts. The first thing to let go was the clutch, and it had plenty of abusive miles on it.

ha ha ha.. man on a C4 the e-brake is on the left hand side down by the carpet on the floor.. it might be a bit tricky trying to have a hand on the wheel, a hand on the e-brake, and a hand on the shifter and work the gas and clutch.. I can multitask, but man thats askin alot.. if it were in the center console and I could keep my left hand on the wheel and right hand on ebrake suty then switch it to the shifter maybe but think I am gonna have to just be impressed with your abilities and forego that route..lol very impressed though.. thats alot to handle in a very short bit of time with a car like yours! I have a mcleod twin disk in it and a ZF 6 speed tranny which are supposed to be pretty tough.. I have blown posi units and a half shaft before on a sticky track and soem 5000rpm launches but the car I was racing had in excess of 100k miles and a mcleod twin disk in it.

I think I am gonna just forget about the two step this track day and play with it a little on the street and work my way up until it seems to feel alright but not too violent. thanks for the input...

ps.. i am gonna be running 315 nitto drag radials and they are so so as far as hooking up at our local track. but with the low compression and stock camshaft.. the car is kinda piggy off boost. was just really wanting to have even an advantage of getting into boost sooner not really even need to launch on boost or if I did maybe only around 2-3 pounds to get the car rollin good for a decent 60'.

Lol, yeah I wasn't thinking about the parking brake location on a C4, that would be a bit tough.

Forget about the 2-step on 17's. It will still either bog or blow the tires away.

On street tires, I like to come out at around 4,000 with alot of clutch slip and moderate throttle application. (no WOT until 3rd gear). Doing that you can keep the fine line between spin/bog.

Wish you were around this way man..lol hate i missed ya at maxton.. next time ya come up to NC you definately have to give me some notice.. PM or such and I'll give ya my number.. you are more then welcome to crash instead of paying for hotels or the sort.. my pop, brothers and I are all gear heads and live in Oak Island on the water and like to have a great time with some drinks and bench racing on the back deck over a good steak and some fresh fish. and there are a few cars here I would REALLY like to introduce you too.. until I get mine all dialed in and swap out the cam and do some head work and upgrade the turbo to something a little bigger I really have nothing for them. and it gets under my skin at times.. did I mention they are DSM's.. I know thats sad but these guys are no rookies and I can respect their hard work and superior knowledge of their cars.. but they have just been running rampant around here with no one to seriously challenge them. they run legit at the track and rarely on the street. ho hum.. oh well.. like I said next time your up this way..lol

ttyl man!

"I am preparing to track the car for the first time since it has come alive.."

If your first time outs go anything like mine have, you'll have enough other issues to figure out. The 2 step is tricky, initially, work up on it at too low of an RPM. Then if you get it to work, it will change day to day, track to track, good luck.
