Default can both fans be programmed to come on at the same time

1998 a4 z28
can both fans be tuned to come on at the same time everytime.
the reason is I use the car to bracket race and only that.
I most of the time am running back to back and like to keep it cool. as of now I have the fans grounded together at the fuse box. the only problem is that when the fan comes on it sets of a check engine light.
thanks

Dunno about that but I have them on within 2
degrees of each other.

If you have cobbled up I recommend going further,
buy a pair of cheap Selco thermostats from Digi-Key
(say, 160F and 165F setpoints, have to do the
arithmetic for Celsius ratings they go by) and run
the high/low signals off these and program the PCM
for "no electric fans". Then you have a radiator that
keeps itself below thermostat temp, the 'stat has
instant authority and some backing thermal store.
Or since this is a bracket car maybe just use a WOT
switch and run the fans full time high speed except
when you want to shed accessory load.

I use HPT to turn on both fans at 168 degs all the time everyday, no codes. My fans are wired up differently tho. I'm running an aftermarket set of fans. I ran both positive wires from the fans going to the positive side on one side of the factory fan harness. I have both grounds from the fans running to the ground side of the other side of the factory fan harness. Works excellent and the fans come on high all the time. Been running the fans like this for over 5 years with no trouble.

I also use HPT to have the fans run after the car is shut down anytime then engine temp is over 200 degs for 2 minutes. Really helps it out.
