Ken,

I'd assume that you had not included a comparison of your product with any other vendor products on your website. I'm sure if you had that you'd remember about it. I'd only posted the comparison to have it available after so many questions in this regard (can't keep answering the same ones over and over). Given that you have such an enormous user base, it's quite easy for the 'voice' of the HPT product to be somewhat more audible. A bit like Democrats -vs- Republicans in some areas. Just trying to lay facts out as cleanly as possible so folks can make educated decisions rather than following 'Poll Threads'.

Chris,

I totally understand with respect to options. As you know, it probably would not have been workable to have the Roadrunner operate with both EFILive and HPT from the perspective of protecting the interests of either. I had to make a choice of who to deal with, and it was based on an array of factors such as response time, schedule availability, agreeability to nondisclosure, and general overall 'gut feel'. No harm no foul, and it's good to see that you were able to explore other directions. As you said, your present course fits your business model.

Also, if anyone feels that there are inaccuracies in the referenced document, please feel free to email me offline and I'll be glad to correct it.

Wow, the people selling HP and EFI are much more civil than most of us users. I have been expecting this thread to turn into a flaming ****-slinging fest for days now.

We're all grown-ups here, no need for that sort of thing.

Everyone involved is doing what they can to bring functionality to the users as best they can.

i congradulate hptuners and craig moates/efilive for their accomplishments. they have brought tuning to a whole new level for a lot less than what was originally offered.

I use the Roadrunner with EFI Live on my car all the time and the other night I got to use HPT's real time tuning. The Roadrunner works in the tuner where HPT's real time tuning works in the scanner which makes it a PITA to have to copy back to the tuner. I have full access to anything in the PCM with the Roadrunner where you are vary limited on what you can change with HPT. Also with EFILive there is a feature that allows you to copy and fill for the hard to get cells where HPT doesn't seem to offer this. While it is a nice feature for some, it really is apples to oranges between the two.

Newbie question: If I purchased the Roadrunner with the EFI lic., do I still need to purchase the scanner too? Or is that all I would need?

Then what is the USB connection to the PCM for if you need the OBDII scanner too? Is the USB just one-way communication?

I dont think you need the scanner. But your not going to know much about what you have changed if you just change cells randomly without any feedback other than how the car "feels".
Ill be able to confirm tomorrow when I fire my demo unit up.

Craig has told me that the roadrunner will support datalogging and real tiem tuning thru one interface. I just don't think they have gone that far with it yet.

www.holdencrazy.com has some stock and modified tunes but they are no different than regular tune files and can be used with the RR
