Does anybody have a pin out of the 98 pcm? I have a pinout of a 2000 already. BTW This swap is for a friend, I am just doing the wiring.

Well I currently have a 01 enigine harness, all sensors needed for the swap, 01 cluster, pcm, and fuel tank/sending unit. Im getting ready to get a complete body harness from a wrecked car (dash to tank). Would there be any other things I may need for the swap?? You guys think this may work??

The 99+up motor harness only has two connectors going in. You will need to cut/repin a 3 to 2 connector senario. That is take 3 connectors on the interior car side and reroute them to the 99+up cable(there are empty slots on the connectors). Plus add one wire for the serial data line from those connectors on the kick panel to the dash. Any info further than this, PM me for info.

No, we don't offer an adapter harness to switch from the 98 PCM.

We have a shop adapter harness so we can run 98 PCM's with the newer harnesses very similar to what Doc built for his car, but we aren't going into production with it.

it looks like the speartech piece is 98 pcm in a 99 harness, backwards of what most people want to do.

One could make them, but the harness connectors are only available as a pcm, so I doubt most customers would pay the $250-350 that it would take to bring this piece to market.

Good point Ryan, I made the adapter but in the end just re-pinned my car. I am just going to use it as a tool to tune 98's faster. No backup ve table, plus the ability to tune realtime with the Moates Road Runner. If I did'nt have it I guess I would get a 98 Road Runner. Since then I have re-pinned tunedportcj5's 98 car to accomodate a 99pcm and LS2. There are just so many benefits to the newer Operating Systems. I am working on a homebrew progressive NO2 controller that will work with EFI Live's OS5.

Don't you wish your 98 was a freak like me? Don't you?

I just wouldn't be comfortable with a bunch of those stuffed under the hoods of cars all over the place in various climates and operating conditions. Not a robust enough item to suit me.

Ok, realistically how much would you be willing to spend? Mathmatically/ businesswise I would guess that there are not enough potential buyers given only 17,663 Z28/SS vehicles were produced in 1998. That rules out a mass production that could cut manufacturing costs by automation. That leaves the custom route that is time consuming-let alone R&D time. Now on to the male connector that was mentioned before, has to come from a dead/recycled pcm~$25. The female connectors are ~20 (if bought in bulk, 60 piece min) otherwise prepare to pay ~35 for just 2. ~160 pins = ~15
wire = ... Are you starting to get my point? Here we are already approaching over 100 dollars in materials alone; say 16-20 hours to complete at ~30 dollars an hour = 500 . Now this is just a quick off the top of my head quote ~600 at a bare minimum. With a price like that you could buy a whole new harness and for another 100 a newer pcm. You are still going to need to have a Instrument Cluster ~50 -70 ; mod the car's cluster connector (~4 hours) and swap out the sending unit/pump if you want the fuel gage to work. Bottom line, there is no real simple "buy this dongle, plug it in" and boom, you are out of the 98 Fcar tuning nightmare. An onsite visit, or you take the car to a qualified tech are your only "real" options unless you feel comfortable enough to do it yourself.

one question on this swap.

Do any of the 99+ PCM's use a PWM fuel level sender? (maybe a truck, or van?) IF so, does anybody know the pin number for this output. Just seeing if there is any way to get around the fuel tank issues.

If you compare the calibration tables btw 98 & 99+up you'll note that the A/D signal converter axis table units/definitions are different. I suppose you could try to do the mathmatical gymnastics to make something workable. I do think the opportunity to upgrade the pump is worthwhile. I mean if you are serious enought to consider the whole swap, I bet you have a hardcore setup that would benefit from an upgraded pump/sending unit. The good news is the internal car signal wiring going to the tank (and connectors on the tank) are the same and no modification there is required. To me the dash re-wire is the most challenging part. But after having done it a couple of times now it is pretty easy.

Make a detailed "howto" and sell, i´d buy one.
