You can use a VIN number that was equipped with the gears your putting in, or you can get a VCI number from GM which will be a modified stock calibration for your current VIN. I've done both methods, but they both require access to TIS (dealer program). The Tech2 by itself will not do it.

VCI number not vin number. VCI allows the use of different Segment part numbers for the thing you are wanting to do. In tis on the calibration page, it asks you at the bottom what you want to do, Normal, VCI, or recalibrate.

If it was a setup that was a factory option, then all you do is change the vin to one that matches that exact option set. then after it is done writting to the pcm and it says to shut off the vehicle, pull the battery power to the pcm and then put it back on, and wait 15 seconds. Then you will notice that the vin number has not been changed but you have the right program.
