How to test if a wideband sensor needs to be replaced?

Default How to test if a wideband sensor needs to be replaced?

I spoke to Ricky yesterday from NX express, and he mentioned to use a volt meter on the orange and yellow wires on the sensor.

Well I got under the car, and the part from the sensor only shows a yellow and red wire.

There is a yellow and orange wire, but those are running from from the head unit of the wideband system, not the sensor.

Also, where exactl do I put the volt meter things? I dont see any open wire, do I just put it on the insulated/colored wire?

putting it on the insulated wire will show no voltage. Youll have to rig some way to jumper off or tap the wire.

i usually stick a needle through the wire and then alligator clip the needle.

Is the output erratic? I usually just open up the graphs in HPT and watch the readings that way. If the swings are tight and controlled, it's fine...if they swing really far to either side erratically, it needs to go.

Bosch or NTK sensor ?

NTK's are accurate until they die, and no longer work, so no worry about them becoming bad.

Bosch sensors can drift, and can easily be unaccurate over time, especially when running leaded fuel.

I think its a bosch sensor, not sure how to tell though.

Its a single wideband sensor, I'll see if I can get some pics, maybe that would help.
