Default Engine swap

I just put a 01 ls1 engine & t56 in my wifes 98 z28. Took it out today & everything worked great except the no speedo & it is very difficult to get into reverse, like the reverse lockout is engaged? The 98 was originally equipped with a T56.

Any ideas, I am sure that all the wires are hooked up correctly?

I won't be much help with the speedo, but I can tell you a few tests you can do to potentially diagnose your reverse problem. Can you move the stick two clicks to the right in the neutral position (ie. past the 5/6 gears) but just can not get it to go up? If so it isn't sound likely to be the reverse lockout solenoid. There are many possible reasons, but the one I am most familiar with is that your clutch may be dragging (not fully disengaging). You can test this somewhat by stopping the car on a flat road or driveway (preferable) and then putting the car in neutral. Release the brakes and ensure that your car does not roll in any direction. Now put the car in gear (first or reverse) while holding the clutch in. If the car begins to roll your clutch may not be fully disengaging. I hope this helps.

Thanks but I am sure it's the solenoid holding it from going over. I have driven the same tranny & clutch in my 01, I just swapped it over to her car. I think it is some kind of electronic problem, no speedo & reverse LO problem.

I know you said that you are sure that all the wires are hooked up correctly, but could you have switched the wires for the speed sensor and the lockout solenoid on the trans? I am not sure if the connectors are different, but if not, it is a possibility. Try this, put your key in the ignition of the car and turn it to ON but do not start the car. Push in the clutch and try to get it into reverse. If it goes, then it is not the solenoid. If not, then I would recheck the wiring and use a multimeter to ensure that the solenoid is getting voltage.

I got under there this morning & found that we had pulled a wire loose when installing the TQ arm. Everything works great now! Thanks for the help.
