I want to have a backup PCM - Can any PCM be programed for any car?
I have a 2001 SS A4.
I want to have the TM removed, idle bumped up and timing advanced.
What I was thinking is, buy a PCM from a wreck and send that in for all my programing instead. This way, if I need warranty work, I can always put my stock PCM back in. Plus, I'll never have to be without the car while the PCM is being programmed.
Is this possible with the likes of MTI, Steve Cole or Ed Wright?

Yep, just make sure you get the similar year core (a 98 pcm isn't at all the same as a 99). GM for some reason keeps changing the pinouts each year.
When I did my MTI computer, I paid for the core and then kept my original. Probably not the cheapest way to do it, but it's nice knowing I have the original in case I install a blower/turbo.

Valvegod@aol.com sells pcms. I have bought surplus GM parts from him.
