Default Reading "Air Bag System Faults"

Air Bag light on after replacing both bags and controler. On power up light will flash 3 times as normal, but remains on after engine start.

Any Ideas of hand, have rechecked all conections R&Red fuse.

What is needed to pull the faults besides going to the dealer. I believe I need to find someone with a TECH 2 tester-reader, or what other methods to pull faults.

Is it flashing three times???

Should flash seven times and then stay off.

I think only a Tech2 or better can read Body trouble codes.

If your battery was connected, you could have possibley blown the module when you pluged it back in, and it will need replaced(if blown). I done this once, i think, it was a new part and wouldnt program until i got another new one. This was on an 03 silverado. The tech two should be able to tell you that you have a disconnected wire or a bad sdm, some call it a derm or air bag module. I dont know of any others, but there could be. Some stealerships will want to charge 75 bucks whether they can fix it or not, been there done that. You may want to call around to the local dealerships to see if they have done this type of work, because if not, they just read the papers gm supplies and they dont have a clue. Find a shop that reprograms them often for salvage yards and such.

I went to the Stealership one time and they said 35 bucks for under 8 trouble codes or 65 if you have more than 8.

I asked the lady why and she said she had to write them down by hand.

Might be that many flashes will have to check. And there was no power on the car when the Mod, was connected. Was told it was unblown when I bought it????????????

each dealership is different i have found, one i go to to get good prices on parts another to have work done. They charged me 75 dollars to plug it in and tell me what i already knew and what i told them before plugging it in, go figure. The other dealership didnt charge me nothing and told me i had a bad module and that when i got a new one to come back and then he would charge me like half what the other guys did

some of the newer ones has to be prograndmed by a tech two because the vin number is stored in them and if it dont match the ecm vin and other modules then it wont work. On the 00-02 new body style silverado if the part number and the number below it is the same then it will work unless something else is wrong.

mostly correct, its called a sdm (sensing and diagnosing module) it needs to have the vin number learned and the bcm needs to get the part number and some other security codes from the sdm. the sdm has what are called latched codes, which means they cant be cleared, normally this is only after a crash though, b0052 is a deployment commanded and that will need to have the sdm replaced for, but you only get this code after a crash, your car could need a wiring repair or maybe even a sir coil in the steering wheel, the only way to tell is to get the codes and then thats only a first step

Ha this might be the problem, SDM came form another car. I am almost poitive it is not the wiring or sir coil was very carfull with that portion. Swapped in a new steering column for another car that I took out.

Quick question off track here I have also noticed with key in accy position I am getting a clicking noise from under dash. In the area of the dash on the driver side. Sounds like it is coming from the traction control unit, or is that the cruise control unit under the lh side of the dash?
