turbo tuning
Im in the process of installing an sts turbo. I already have heads and cam and have tuned for that.
I have hp tuners software and an aem wideband. Im pretty familiar with how things work. I have been tuning for around a year. I tuned for nitrous and the mods I hav without any problems.
I plan to run 5-8 or maybe 10 psi if I can get away with it without a SD tune. I will be upgrading to 2 bar as soon as I can get the extra money. But for now its lower psi and the maf.
I looked at the predator safe 5psi tune that come with it and its pretty much the same except lower timing and lower afr.
I know I need to keep my a/f around 11.5-12.0. I need to pull timing as well. How much timing for 5psi and for 8 psi?
I assume under part throttle everything should stay around the same correct? I already have the tables for the 42lb injectors as well.
I guess my basic questions are..
What timing?
What esle besided timing, a/f ratio, injector size, needs to be tuned? I assume the ve table may also need some work since it will hit boost sometimes at part throttle..
Are there any close places to memphis other than futral that does good tunes? Is Gomer still doing any tuning?
If anyone has a turbo tune they can send me to help me get started that would be great.

not sure if this helps but I ran a 1bar tune for about a month (goes very rich untill full boost and once in a while right at 0psi car does some wierd stuff.) Now I'm getting a 2.5bar tune, I don't own the software so this is getting expensive a lot more that a $56 cobalt SS map sensor.
One major issue to be aware of is that if the wideband is not placed AFTER the turbo, it will give false readings under boost. The pressure tends to cause the wideband to read extremely rich, even if it isn't. This is only a problem because of the unusual location of the STS pressurizing damn near the entire exhaust system.
Turbos are obviously more difficult to tune then superchargers because you can have so many vac/boost/RPM combinations. This means that you will have to spend much more time on the fuel and spark tables. If you dyno tune, this is where a good load control dyno shines. Timing wise, I usually decrease 1 deg per lb of boost, maybe a little more at first, from what the engine would normally runs, then once you get the fuel right, start sneaking up on the timing. I even have one on my Harley.
