Default tuning software

ok so my question is which tuning software is the best for someone who is going to end up going strictly strip in about 2 years. i was thinking ls1 edit and then after looking at one of the sticky's i think its going to be hptuners or efilive. so basically what im wanting to know is which one is easier to use and which one has more options. the price isnt an issue so if ones more then that doesnt matter.

note: please dont delete this thread i read the sticky before posting

EFILive is no doubt the best on the market - especially for what you're wanting.

The software interface is simple enough for the novice, yet powerful enough for the most advanced tuners. Download a copy here: http://www.efilive.com/download.aspx
You can also visit www.holdencrazy.com to download various tunes to check out with the demo software.

EFILive has the best product and customer support. The makers of EFILive are receptive to user feedback and quick to implement new features. The EFILive resellers offer competitive pricing and telephone support! Many offer a free starter tune to get you on your way.

EFILive licensing is straight forward - no double speak or mumbo jumbo. The initial purchase includes 2 VIN locked licenses allowing you to tune any 2 vehicles you choose. Beyond that it cost one $99 license per vehicle (includes the trans controller if applicable to the vehicle). Unlimited cables are available too should you find you really like tuning.

Another cool license feature: Once you have an EFILive cable, you can read out as many tunes as you like - without using up one of your VIN licenses. The only time you use a license is when you want to write to a PCM/TCM. This makes helping your buddies a lot easier.

EFILive offers a variety of custom operating systems to suite your tuning needs. From a simple 1bar SD to Alpha-N dry shot N20, they got you covered.

EFILive is also the only company to offer a true real time tuning solution with the Moates Road Runner. For more details of how powerful a real RTT solution is, check this thread out: https://ls1tech.com/forums/pcm-diagnostics-tuning/640266-efilive-real-time-automated-calibration-system-rtacs.html

When you have a chance, check out the forum: www.forum.efilive.com. You will find many very knowledgeable folks at EFILive that are more than willing to help with any tuning question/issue you may have.

HPTuners has always strived to have thee most user friendly software & hardware package available from our presetup Basic, Standard & Advanced views so you can see what tables you'll most often need to use to our advanced comparsion feature that can even compare two DIFFERENT operating systems.

Our online/in software help file which includes dozens of Demo's with more being added continually www.hptuners.com/help can help guide you through a large portion of the tuning process

HPTuners Real Time Tuning solution is the ONLY one to use the Stock Hardware/PCM and application is quick and painless taking less then 5 minutes in every case...no waiting on licensing, no wiring to do, you don't even have to pop your hood...all plug & play & you have access to dozens of the most important tables you'll need during your tuning experience including VE, Alpha-N TPS multiplyer, Power Enrichment, Boost Enrichment, Spark, MAF, knock retard, idle, etc.

Our package also comes with up to 4 pcm locked licenses, but with our credit licensing it makes it thee most flexible licensing systems available. We are the only one to offer model/year unlimited locking as well as upgrade pricing to your not throwing good money at bad.

Our user help forum now has over 5500 members all of which are very helpful & with dozens of how-to's you'll be up and running in no time.

You'll also find we offer far more support for GM powered vehicles then any other package out there...from Inline 4 cyl, Inline 5 cyl, Inline 6 cyl, V6, V8, Duramax, LS2, LS7 we offer tuning for hundreds of models that our competitors cannot.

Either way you'll be happy, but with better pricing, more licenses, Real Time Tuning at no extra cost, and more supported vehicles HP Tuners is the clear choice.

Heres a comparison I made up with the input of Black02SS, HumpinSS & Blacky from efilive to help with your decision

is there a tuning package that lets you tune "on the fly" where you can change parameters with the car on and such?

Both HP Tuners and EFI Live allow this...HP Tuners "on the fly" solution is included in our custom operating systems absolutly free and you could be up and running for as little as $499 whereas EFIlive uses Craig Moates roadrunner solution that is roughly $1200 for their standard version & nearly $1300 with the bluetooth option and would ONLY come with a license for 1 pcm whereas ours you'd be able to tune several vehicles on the fly with your initial $499 or $649 purchase without a dime further cash outlay.

The only true advantage to their system is the fact that you can change ALL tables whereas ours your limited to the most important tables ie VE, PE, Spark, MAF, IDLE, etc...about 2 dozen all total...but most people have no need to change fan turn on temps & rev limiters "on the fly" as most of that stuff can be done with just a few clicks in a starter tune.

I do not endorse this comparison as items I asked to be added/changed/removed haven't been. When I feel the comparison is fair, I will recommend it. It still is missing features from EFILive that I requested as well as favors HPT due to the creator of the PDF.

Try both programs and see which one you like.

Chad you wanted me to add the $100 optional bluetooth to Roadrunner as a positive for EFILive whereas its a Natural Flaw of having to remove the stock PCM & replace it with the replacement roadrunner PCM & have to run wires whereas ours is truely a plug & play system that can be done from the comfort of the drivers seat. Also the upload/download speeds change with the bluetooth effectively throwing off alot of the other information that is out there. There were literally dozens of corrections & additions I made for you the last time we talked, but im not going to make a natural negative look like a positive.

Heres our demo page http://www.hptuners.com/help/getting_started_demos.htm which basically guides you through much of the tuning process from applying Custom Operating systems(something the efilive demo cannot do) to changing fan temp settings.

I would agree the comparo is skewed - but in both directions. Let's take the comparo to PM's. Foff - I'm about to send you some suggestions and I need your email address to send screen shots.

That is a personal opinion of yourself. Others may feel that is a plus. I agree with Andy, lets take it to PM/IM.

To the original poster, I have one thing to say in this matter. Chevy or Ford.... You pick which one you want to own because they both will get you from A to B.

I recently looked very hard at both EFI Live and HP Tuners. Both are first rate products, competitively priced, and would have worked fine based on their capabilities, features, support, etc. My ultimate decision to purchase HP Tuners was swayed because I simply felt more comfortable with the HP Tuners interface. Others are more comfortable with EFI Live...it all came down to a matter of personal preference.

from my understanding of people who arent sponsors of either tuning software its pretty much down to personal preference. so with efi live i have to purchase the roadrunner package as well im a little confused on that part.

Yes with EFILive you have to purchase the RR hardware and a license in order to use its features (RT Tuning, RT Auto Tuning and many more). This doesnt deplete any liceses you have on your cable until you flash a non-RR (stock PCM) PCM
