Question For those of you who live in cold climates...

...and have removed the A.I.R., do you occasionally set code P0141 02 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2) when it gets below freezing? I'm trying to figure out whether this is really a bad heater circuit or just a symptom of having removed the A.I.R.

Any insights?

Bank 1 Sensor two is the 2nd O2 sensor on the driver's side. It has nothing to do with the AIR pump. Question is, if you have removed the AIR, why do you still have rear O2s? AIR is there for the catalytic converters....so no AIR = no cats = no need for rear O2s.

I removed the A.I.R. only because I was sick and tired of hearing the pump screeching on startup. I'm probably not going to remove the cats until I change over the exhaust (which is still some time away), so I guess I'll bite the bullet and buy a new sensor.

Thanks.

Hi Fran! How is it going?
"Heater circuit" means you have either a short or a broken cable between the PCM and the heating resistance of the O2 sensor.
Maybe it happens when it's cold because of humidity. Do you have salt on your roads? Have you inspected the O2 cables and connector?
You can swap your actual sensors right to left and see if the error changes from one bank to the other. If not it's the cable

Hey, Stefano, good to hear from you!

Yes, I need to look at the sensor and cable to check their condition (I see that the heater is also fused, so maybe I can get away without crawling under the car this weekend! ).

I was also looking at this as an opportunity to replace that sensor with a WB. Of course, you know how cheap I am, so I doubt I'll find anything on my $40 budget.

How's everything going in your neck of the woods?

Is it really a good idea to replace the rear O2 with a WB? I think it's better to put it in front of the cat... But you can swap them (front - rear) and use the output of the WB to go to the PCM. It works fine! (I tried myself with a PLX 300). But sorry, not for $40

Not too bad over here! Still too much work, but so far I'm surviving

I've read the pros and cons of WBs before and after the cats and have come to the conclusion that it doesn't seem to matter much...it's still better than the NBs from a dataset perspective. Still, I could take your advice and swap them...may even try it to see if there is a difference myself.

Hopefully, you're staying warm. It's about -13C here at the moment.
